Mijn naam is Sipke Ernst, Internationaal grootmeester en professioneel schaaktrainer.
Ik ben in 1979 geboren in Dokkum. Op mijn negende heb ik op de basisschool leren schaken en sindsdien was ik helemaal verslingerd aan het spelletje. Op de jeugd NK's deed ik het nooit zo bijzonder, hoewel ik best talentvol was. Mijn doorbraak kwam in 1998, toen ik me plots als 2300-speler kwalificeerde voor het NK Algemeen. Dat was in die tijd een toptoernooi met grootmeesters als Nikolic, Sokolov, Timman, Van Wely en Piket. Ik eindigde op de 9e plaats (van de 12) en scoorde mijn eerste IM-norm. Een paar maanden later had ik die titel binnen.
In 2006 kwam daar nog de grootmeestertitel bij. In de tussentijd heb ik ook mijn studie Nederlandse taal & cultuur afgerond.

My name is Sipke Ernst, Chess Grandmaster and professional chesscoach.
I was born in 1979 in Dokkum, a small village in the very north of the Netherlands. I learned chess at grammar school at the age of 9 and started to play actively immediately. I was never very succesful in Junior championships, but I somewhat surprisingly managed to qualify for the Dutch championships in 1998, a tournament from which I, a 2300 player at that time, learned a great deal. In those days this was a very strong tournament which could count on the participation of several topgrandmasters like Nikolic, Sokolov, Timman, Van Wely and Piket. I finished 9th (of 12) and scored my first IM-norm. A couple of months later all requirements for obtaining the title of International Master were fulfilled.
After 7 more years I obtained the GM at the age of 27. In the meantime I finished a MA in 'Dutch language and Culture'.
